DataMiner Storage as a Service (STaaS)

Better storage

Zero-downtime availability

30-day disaster recovery

Enterprise-grade security

Faster deployment

Setup in minutes, not days

Ultra-low latency you’ll never notice

Automated updates eliminate manual work

Cheaper operations

Pay-per-use pricing with no hidden fees

Zero maintenance overhead, zero engineering headaches

Scale up confidently without cost surprises

Benefits of cloud storage you can’t ignore

You’re spending thousands per month on self-managed storage—but why?

DataMiner STaaS can cut costs by up to 43% over five years compared to traditional on-premises solutions.

Why? Because running your own Cassandra or OpenSearch clusters burns through €2,500+ per month in infrastructure costs alone. But with STaaS, you pay only for data you actually use, and scale effortlessly with zero waste or overprovisioning.

Direct savings: guaranteed - Potential savings: higher if on-prem issues arise.

Turn money-draining maintenance time into money-making innovation time.

With self-managed storage, engineers lose most of their hours patching, scaling, and troubleshooting databases.

With STaaS, all that time is freed up for what truly matters: building dashboards, apps, and automation that drive business value.

How it works

Zero-maintenance storage in three simple steps

Setting up DataMiner STaaS takes minutes. Not hours. Not days.

Here's how to upgrade your DataMiner System to zero-maintenance cloud storage:

1

Connect to dataminer.services.

Link your DataMiner System to our cloud platform and unlock additional capabilities for collaboration, efficiency, and, of course, storage!

2

Register your DataMiner System and choose your region.

By registering your DataMiner System in your preferred region, you ensure all your data remains compliant with local laws and regulations.

3

Configure, initialize, and start thinking about what to do with all that free time.

Enable cloud storage in your DataMiner configuration, then click “Initialize” to activate STaaS. It’s really that simple. In less time than it takes to finish your lunch, you'll have cloud storage running.

STaaS vs self-managed storage

Why STaaS?

DataMiner efficiency. Azure reliability.

There's no shortage of cloud storage providers, but none fits your DataMiner setup better than STaaS. It runs on Microsoft Azure, combining the reliability of a proven cloud platform with a quick, minimal-click setup.

And since we're an official Azure partner, STaaS is fully covered under your Azure Consumption Commitment (MACC) benefit.

Frequently asked questions

How secure is STaaS?

STaaS runs on Microsoft Azure and Cosmos DB, giving you enterprise-grade security. All data is encrypted at rest (AES-256) and in transit (TLS 1.2+), with continuous monitoring and threat detection. In addition, we also have a dedicated SecOps team that constantly focuses on optimizing our cloud security.

What compliance standards does STaaS meet?

By running on Microsoft Azure, STaaS inherits Azure’s global compliance portfolio (ISO, SOC, GDPR, HIPAA, and more).

Can I migrate my existing data to STaaS?

Yes, and it's incredibly easy. Our automated migration tool safely transfers everything from your current setup to STaaS with one click. Moving terabytes of production data sounds scary, but we've made it simple and risk-free. You can find all the details on our documentation page: Migrating existing data to STaaS.

Can I get my data back if something goes wrong?

Yes. STaaS takes a daily backup of your data and keeps it for 30 days. If something goes wrong—like accidental changes or deletions—our support team can restore your data from one of these backups.

Can I choose where my data is stored?

Yes. You can decide to keep your data in an Azure data center located in the region you prefer. This helps you meet local laws, regulations, and compliance requirements. You can see the full list of available Azure regions here.

What happens to my data if something happens to the data center?

Your data is always stored in multiple places. Even if one data center has an outage or disaster, your data stays safe and available. STaaS offers two options:

  • Zone-redundant storage (ZRS): your data is kept in three separate facilities within the same region (this is the default).
  • Geo-redundant storage (GRS): your data is also copied to another region for extra protection.
How easily can I scale my storage?

Very easily! STaaS is designed to grow with you. Whether you need more storage, higher performance, or additional users, it can scale automatically without downtime or manual intervention. Built on Microsoft Azure and Cosmos DB, it leverages enterprise-grade cloud infrastructure to handle any increase in demand safely and efficiently.

How are costs calculated?

While self-managed storage often requires a big upfront investment and is scaled for worst-case scenarios—leaving a lot of unused, costly capacity—STaaS works differently. You pay for the storage you actually use, plus any extra features or performance options you choose. No surprises.

Why is StaaS better, faster, and cheaper than running self-managed storage?

Let’s break it down:

  • STaaS is better because it taps into Microsoft Azure’s cloud-native storage, offering built-in redundancy, 30-day backups, and rock-solid reliability.
  • StaaS is faster because you can deploy it instantly—no server setup, no patching, no maintenance headaches—and engineers can focus on real work instead of managing storage.
  • StaaS is cheaper because there’s no big upfront hardware cost, and you pay only for what you actually use, avoiding the wasted expense of overprovisioned systems.

In short, STaaS delivers high-performance, scalable storage without the hassle or hidden costs of doing it yourself.
